frequently asked questions

Is Videography your full-time job?

Yes. I have been involved in video production for the past eight years and have worked for broadcasters including Sky and the BBC on both current affairs and live events. As well as wedding videos, I also produce corporate video from time to time.

Do you have any relevant qualifications?

I studied hands-on video production for two years at college before going into the professional broadcast sector. Along with my HND in video production I have also qualified in Professional Wedding Videography and hold a Master Membership of the Institute of Videography.

I have seen some wedding videos where sound quality is very poor.

I have experienced the same from watching many amatuer wedding videos and – more disturbingly – some other professional's work. A quality picture is only half of the battle when it comes to creating a good wedding video. I have found that using the camera's built-in microphone is, for the most part, unacceptable. I use a discreet radio mic system for the vows, where the microphone is placed on the groom's person. This might seem a little scary but the system is very light and the microphone itself only about the size of a 1 pence coin. This will pick up the Groom, Bride and whoever is conducting the ceremony. If there are any readings, a second mic will be placed in the relevant area to pick up the sound.

We also use these same mics during the speeches at which point they are attached to small and equally discreet table-top stands.

Also, you may have experienced big jumps in volume when watching wedding videos. I avoid this by adjusting the volume in the edit to BBC sound level standards.

You can hear an example of some vows in the show reel section.

I’m worried about the camera being too ‘in your face’.

This is certainly a valid concern. I wouldn’t like it either. To achieve our style I make sure that I am in the background as much as possible. Also, I wont be moving around during the ceremony. Many people have commented on how unobtrusive I am. Please take a look at our testimonial section for examples of this.

Furthermore, I will not set up shots unless you wish me to do so but, of course, feel free to give the camera a wave if you want to.

Do you use ‘bright lights’?

In short, no. Additional lighting can really start to affect the ambience of your big day and that is the last thing I want to do.

In extreme situations of low light (e.g the first dance), it may be deemed necessary to use a small on-camera light.

My friend has a camcorder. Can’t he/she do he video?

Yes they can. However, ask yourself how many of the other elements of your day are being done by relatives or friends. For example, would you trust a non-professional to take your photos. Probably not in most cases. Not to mention your friend or relative will be tied to a camera all day and will not be able to enjoy themselves as they normally would and could be easily distracted by catching up with friends.

To create a good wedding video, it takes a great deal of time and experience not to mention a heavy financial investment in quality equipment. There are so many elements to your wedding video to consider it would unwise to leave it the hands of an amateur.

I have something that I would like to see in the video but cannot see in your options.

No problem. Feel free to contact me and I’ll do my best to accommodate your request.

How long will it take to receive my finished DVD/Video?

During quieter times of the year, it takes two weeks. However, during peak times, delivery of the final product could take up to six weeks.

Can I order copies after the wedding?

Of course. We will hold both the master tapes and master DVD so that you can order copies when and if you require them.

How do I book?

Simply contact me if you wish to book and the relevant documents will be sent out you.

I have some other questions. Can I contact you?

Certainly. Just go to the contact section and either e-mail me or phone the number day or night.

What kind of equipment do you use?

In short, we shoot and edit your video using the highest quality digital equipment to ensure a final product that looks and sounds as close to it did on the day.

For those of you who are interested, we use Panasonic DVX100 video cameras and lightweight Sony radio mics to capture your big day. For post-production and editing we use Final Cut Pro 4 running on Apple Macintosh G5 workstations.

Although advances in technology have allowed many more people to shoot adequate video, a lack of professional experience and creative flair often results in a poor quality end product. While we are happy to let you know exactly what equipment we use, we would prefer that you based your descision to commission a wedding video on the end product rather than being distracted by technical jargon. Please take the time to download and view samples of our work.
